With its inviting aroma of simmering broth and sizzling woks, this small but vibrant Vietnamese restaurant captures the essence of comfort food done right. It’s not about extravagance it’s about heart, flavor, and the kind of warmth that keeps you coming back for more.

A Cozy Space with Genuine Warmth

Stepping into Waiting Pho U feels like walking into a neighborhood gathering spot. The space is modest, but its cheerful energy and friendly staff make every guest feel welcome. It’s the kind of place where locals drop by for their regular pho fix, students grab a quick meal between classes, and families settle in for a comforting dinner together.

Despite its compact size, the restaurant manages to balance efficiency and hospitality seamlessly. The team works quickly without ever making you feel rushed, and each dish that arrives at the table carries a sense of care and craftsmanship that only family-run eateries seem to have mastered.

Vietnamese Classics That Warm the Soul

At the core of Waiting Pho U’s appeal is its pho, the national dish of Vietnam and a cornerstone of the restaurant’s menu. Each bowl is built from hours of patient simmering, layering deep, aromatic flavors that speak of tradition.

The Signature Pho Experience

The Special Beef Pho is a standout — a large, fragrant bowl filled with tender slices of beef, soft rice noodles, and fresh herbs. The broth is clear yet rich, carrying notes of star anise, cinnamon, and beef marrow that linger with every sip. Served with lime, basil, and bean sprouts on the side, it’s customizable comfort in its purest form.

For spice lovers, the Spicy Huế Style Vermicelli Beef Soup (Bún Bò Huế) delivers heat and depth in equal measure. The lemongrass-infused broth is robust and fiery, balancing the richness of beef with chili oil and fresh herbs.

Stir-Fried and Grilled Favorites

Beyond pho, the menu expands into a selection of stir-fried noodles, rice dishes, and grilled specialties that showcase the diversity of Vietnamese cuisine. The Grilled Lemongrass Pork Chop is a crowd favorite — smoky, tender, and perfectly seasoned with that signature citrusy kick. Pair it with Steamed Rice and Pickled Vegetables, and you have a meal that’s both satisfying and full of character.

The Chicken Pad Thai and Fried Noodles with Tiger Shrimp bring a balance of sweetness, tang, and crunch, offering a fusion-style take that feels familiar yet distinctly Vietnamese. Meanwhile, dishes like the Fried Rice with Seafood and Sautéed Tomato & Fried Basa Fillet are hearty, comforting options that highlight the restaurant’s commitment to freshness.

Small Plates That Pack Big Flavor

Waiting Pho U’s appetizers are perfect for sharing — or enjoying solo if you can’t resist trying more than one. The Fresh Spring Rolls are light and fragrant, filled with shrimp, vermicelli, and herbs wrapped in delicate rice paper, while the Crispy Spring Rolls deliver that satisfying crunch paired with sweet chili dipping sauce.

The Fish Sauce Wings have become a hidden gem on the menu, loved for their crispy coating and irresistible sweet-salty glaze. Another must-try is the Grilled Beef Fresh Rolls, which combine smoky meat with the freshness of greens and herbs for a well-balanced bite.

For something playful and comforting, the Fried Wontons are golden, crisp, and perfect alongside a bowl of vermicelli noodles.

Drinks and Desserts That Complete the Experience

No Vietnamese meal is complete without a drink to match the flavors. Waiting Pho U’s Vietnamese Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk is strong, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet ideal for perking you up after a big meal.

The restaurant also offers Free Green Tea for dine-in guests, a simple but thoughtful touch that underscores its commitment to hospitality. For a lighter, refreshing option, the Fruit Smoothies are a hit among regulars, especially during the summer months.

Comfort, Convenience, and Community

Waiting Pho U isn’t a restaurant that tries too hard to impress — and that’s exactly why people love it. It’s casual, consistent, and designed for everyone. The restaurant provides wheelchair-accessible restrooms and ample parking space, making it convenient for guests of all ages.

Whether you’re eating in, taking out, or stopping by for a quick lunch, the service remains fast, friendly, and personal. It’s the type of place where the staff remembers your order and greets you with a smile every time.

stopped in after work for beef soup. the wait staff are super nice and quick service. very clean establishment and do enjoy the background music. had fresh spring roll (beef) could have used a little more beef and then the soup with fresh chillies. 100% recommend and will return to try pad thai

I am so glad I found this spot. The newly renovated restaurant is cozy and inviting, from the tranquil music to the cleanliness. You are immediately brought a green tea and service is pretty quick. But my favorite, the beef pho broth. I have tried many different restaurants known for their pho, and this is by far the best in my opinion. The broth is rich and fresh. The aromas transcend you into bliss. Can you tell I love it! I have brought family and friends there, and we also thoroughly enjoyed the fresh rolls, the fried spring rolls, the beef with rice and egg. It is a fantastic spot to eat fresh, comfort food, if soup is your sort of go to comfort.

Warm, flavorful, and comforting food in a beautiful cozy restaurant. I previously had the rare beef phở which was steaming hot, full of noodles and big beef slices. This time I had the stir-fry soft noodles with beef and loved it. Big beef slices and thin ramen-type noodles coated with a light savory sauce. The location is on the small side, and it was busy for a Wednesday evening. The few staff did their absolute best to attend to every guest. Shout out to the sweetest young lady at the register for her positive demeanor despite the chaos. Will be back!

We were driving on the way home from Blue Mountain and decided to stop in Barrie for lunch. Found this Vietnamese restaurant with pretty good reviews. Ambiance: A bit worn out with leather seat peeling so it hurts when you sit with shorts on. It’s a bit small so it was hard to accommodate 12 people together. We had to split up. Service: Very accommodating. They moved some tables for us to be closer to our kids and when we called ahead of time they saved us 3 small tables. Food came very fast. Food: Very authentic. Restaurant was owned by a Vietnamese family so you know the food will be authentic. We ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls to start, fresh and crispy. Very flavourful and they used the rice paper for the spring rolls which is the authentic way to make it. We also got the pork and shrimp fresh rolls with peanut sauce so good and fresh. Mains we got the pho with rare beef, Bun bo hue your spicy beef noodles, grilled pork with spring roll and vermicelli. Also got the grilled pork chop and chicken with rice.. Price is very reasonable and portions are a good size. Will definitely come back!!
